This year’s Dalesman Awards took place on Sunday. It was a wonderful event that celebrated the brilliance of Yorkshire.
The ceremony took place at Utopia Broughton Hall and the awards were hosted by author Ian Macmillan. He kept the guests entertained with his wonderful stories. His book Flat Cap and Mufflers is a must read!
There was also entertainment provided by the pupils of Giggleswick School. They were fantastic musicians and the young girl who sang had an amazing voice.
We sponsored the Food and Drink Award which was won by Botton Creamery. They are an incredible company who help people with learning difficulties to gain employment and develop their potential.
Our fabulous supplier Razan Alsous from Yorkshire Dama Cheese won the Entrepenuer of the Year Award. Razan fled Syria with her husband and three children after the war in 2012. After struggling to find good quality ‘squeaky cheese’ over here she decided to make her own using fresh British milk. Their cheese has won many awards and this new accolade is very well deserved!
The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Ian Dewhurst MBE. He is an amazing man, a local historian and a public speaker. He estimates that he has given 4,000 talks to date.
Dalesman editor Adrian Braddy said: “It is a genuinely lovely, positive event and a delight to celebrate all that’s great about Yorkshire. This year we had some particularly inspirational winners with some remarkable stories to tell. Once again, the Dalesman Awards demonstrated the incredible diversity and talent we have here in Yorkshire.”
We are already looking forward to next year’s awards.
