Food Too Good to Waste

Did you know that 1/3 of all food produced is wasted and results in 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions – meaning this is having a massive impact on our planet.

When we waste food it not only harms the planet but also has a negative impact on all the time, effort and resources that go into making it. We champion over 400 local producers and farmers and hate the idea that products they’ve lovingly grown or produced might end up in the bin.

That’s why at Keelham half of what we sell is made fresh in our shop, so we ensure that for every primary product we sell there is a secondary production process in place to turn it into something else – so whether that’s a freshly baked Bramley Apple Pie from our bakers to the veg you eat in our Keelham Kitchen – we believe food is too good to waste.

To help our customers think about ways they can reduce food waste in the home, we’d like to hear your ideas, hints and tips on what to do with left-over food in the kitchen and fridge. Whether it’s a pork chop spaghetti or taking those mushy bananas to make baked banana bread doughnuts – we want to hear your recipes and ideas.

Simply write your idea and recipe on a postcard and post this into our ‘Too Good to Waste’ entry box on the Juice Bar in the shop.

Our expert chefs will then pick their favourite and you’ll be invited to join our Head Chef on stage at the Kilnsey Show on Tuesday 27thAugust to cook up your masterpiece in the Keelham Kitchen Cookery Theatre.

Other suggestions will be published into our ‘Keelham Too Good to Waste’ recipe book which will be available to download for free from our website later on this year.

So go on, get sharing those hints and tips and let’s work together to save that delicious food that’s simply too good to waste.
